Founded in 1931, Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University (VSPU) is one of Russia’s top teacher-training higher education institutions with the student body of 7000, including international students from 27 countries. Among the universities majoring in Education and Pedagogical Sciences VSPU is noted for the quality of education as illustrated by its results in The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

VSPU is a multidisciplinary university which offers 129 undergraduate and graduate educational programmes in various fields such as Education, Psychology, Social Work, Linguistics, Information Technology, Economics and Management, Service and Tourism Management, etc. It comprises 6 schools and 5 faculties with over 500 highly qualified staff members.

The Department of Russian as a Foreign Language is a part of the Institute of International Education. Besides teaching activities, it organizes academic and research events for international students, short-term and long-term language courses, summer and winter schools as well as language festivals and events for children and youth.
