Preserving the traditions of Palekh icon painting

Collection of works from the "Dukhanin" workshop, in Russia

Participant of the Ommegang 2021 festival

The village of Palekh has more than 400 years of icon painting history. The quality of execution of a Palekh icon must be impeccable. Written ornaments and graphic representations must be made with the master's heart and warmth; the canvas must be solid and the work must be well protected from external damage. These are all components thay make a Palekh icon . The hard work of the master has to be felt in this style of icon. The artist and iconographer Oleg Nikolaevich Dukhanin, head of a family artist's studio, has devoted more than 40 years to the study and perfection of the iconographic style. Together with like- minded people , he founded a workshop where artists aspire to elevate each work to the level of a spiritual work.
