We will discuss the topic "The Challenges of Diplomacy in the 21st Century" on the occasion of the Diplomat’s Day.

At the event, we will talk about such topics as:
- international systems and the functions of diplomacy
- digitalisation of international relations
- use of social networks in diplomacy
- national interests, diplomatic words vs actions in the international arena
- future of track II diplomacy, the relationship between smart power and soft power

The European Institute of International Relations (Institut Européen des Relations Internationales IERI) is an independent research center, providing training and debates on major international issues. It was established in 1997.
IERI's areas of study and research cover different fields of international relations, including economic, political, strategic and security aspects.
IERI is a founder of an institution of higher education named ADE (Academia Diplomatica Europaea), organizing conferences and representing a forum for diplomats, military and senior officials.
since 2016 heads Strategic Assessment Section at the Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Russian Academy of Sciences. From 2016 till June 2018 he also headed Foreign and Security Policy Department at the Moscow-based Centre for Strategic Research. In 2012-2016 he worked at the Centre for Situation Analysis, Russian Academy of Sciences, now merged with IMEMO. In 2006 - 2013 he worked at IMEMO, where his last position was Head of Section for Political Aspects of European Integration. He holds a PhD in political science (international relations), which he received at IMEMO in 2006 for his thesis on Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU. In 2002 he graduated from the Moscow Pedagogical State University, School of History. His research is focused on foreign and security policy of the EU, the EU’s relations with Russia and the US, Russia’s foreign policy in the Euro-Atlantic area.
